 Wonderful Katha of MahaGauri

The name Mahagauri means bright, fair complexioned, like the moonshine. Mahagauri holds various weapons in her four hands, such as a trident, fearless gesture - ABHAYA MUDRA, and drum, while the fourth is in a blessing gesture - VARAD MUDRA. She rides upon a white bull. She always wears white clothes.
The story of Mahagauri describes how she named DEVI MAHAGAURI. Let us read here the KATHA of maa Mahagauri. The demons Shumbha and Nishumbha could only be killed by a virgin, unmarried form of Parvati. Hence, God Brahma suggested to God Shiva to do something to save the world from SHUMBH and NISHUMBH. MAHADEV teased Parvati repeatedly for her skin colour. Parvati got irritated  by this teasing, so she performed severe penance to Brahma to get a fair complexion. Brahma explained that he was not able to grant her a boon and instead requested her to stop her penance and slay the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha.

Parvati agreed and went to the Ganga river in Himalaya. Parvati entered in the Ganga river and as she took a bath, her dark skin washed off from her immediately  and when she came back out of the Ganga river, she was looking a beautiful golden woman, wearing white garments and apparels. After this GANGA SNAN she gained the epithet "Mahagauri". She then appeared in front of the gods who were praying to her at the Himalayas for the destruction of Shumbha and Nishumbha, She then reflected as the black Kaushiki. The Dev Gana were consistently praying her and requesting to save them selves from the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha.

She transformed herself into Goddess Chandi which is also known as Mata Chandraghanta. On this form she defeated the Devil Dhumralochan. There is a legend about goddess Chamunda that she appeared from the third eye of Devi Chandi. Chamunda is also a fearless form of Goddess Durga who killed the Demons Chanda and Munda to save here devotees. KALRATRI CHAMUNDA then killed Raktabija and his clones, while Chamunda drank their blood. Parvati turned into Kaushiki again and killed Shumbh and Nishumbh, after which she transformed back into Mahagauri. According to SHIV PURAN, Hence Parvati killed Shumbha and Nishumbha, Devi MahaGauri became known as Maha Saraswati and Ambika. These legends are perfectly described in Devi Mahatmya a part of Markandeya Purana.

Mounted upon the back of a ox, she returned back home to Kailash, where Mahadev was waiting for her arrival. They reunited once again and lived happily with their sons, Kartikeya and Ganesh.

Maha Gauri goddess of Shakti and Energy is auspicious. As Navratri 2021 is going to over soon, let us make our selves more spiritual and let us pray to all forms of Goddess Durga such as Parvati, Kaali, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Maha Gauri, Sati, Kala Ratri Katyayani and Brahma Charini. Devi MAHAGAURI protects her devotees, while punishes those who perform evil deeds. May Devi Maha Gauri protect us from the furious time of Covid-19 and kill the Corona Virus as she killed many of the demons. I pray to goddess Durga that please transform this Corona affected year 2021 into a peaceful and happy year in the minds of Mankind.
